Mike Barker
Mike obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal specialising in Electrical Engineer and continues to study in his field of expertise and interests. For over 6 years Mike was a consulting editor for Technews Magazine where he contributed to the Computing, Networking and Electronics section.
Mike is a member of numerous professional organizations. To name a few the Green Building Council of South Africa, the United States Green Building Council, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in SA , Ashrae and the National Fenestration Rating Council.
Mike specialises in Electronics Building Services, Building Control Systems and Building Management Systems. He continues to work with other highly qualified individuals in their field of expertise, to develop International Convention Centre’s. Mike has been involved with the Durban International Conventional Centre from day one until its completion date in 2006. He was part of the core development team in the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Polokwane Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Nelson Mandela Bay Convention Centre.
Mike offers support to Building Services Engineering and IAQ with regards to Energy Modeling, Building Modeling, Daylighting, Energy consumption and Solar heat gain. He is involved in ongoing research into Smart Buildings, Energy Conservation, Green Buildings, Sustainable Buildings and Intelligent Buildings which includes technologies such as oBIX, XML, LONworks.
